Regular dental exams are a critical part of preventive health care. During exam, the dentist carefully reviews your oral health – typically involves checking for any plaque, calculus, stains, or even cavities; any need for surgery (a specific issue in a particular area of the mouth – such as pain, swelling, broken teeth); evaluating risks of developing oral problems such as cancer and checking your face, neck, mouth for any abnormalities.

Regular exams are a part of the 6-month dental check-up process. This may or may not include taking dental radiograph but when a dentist observes an issue, she/he may require an x-ray to review for any inflammation, bleeding, periodontal pockets, and calculus build-up, etc.
